The 71st anniversary of the Algerian Revolution was commemorated in Accra, Ghana, with a vibrant reception hosted by the Algerian Embassy. The event celebrated Algeria's historic struggle for independence and the enduring friendship between Algeria and Ghana. The ceremony, held on Wednesday, gathered diplomats, government officials, traditional leaders, and Algerian friends to reflect on the revolution's legacy of unity, sacrifice, and liberation. The November 1, 1954 revolution marked the beginning of Algeria's armed struggle against French colonial rule, inspiring other African nations in their fight for freedom. Algeria's Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Mourad Louhaidia, emphasized the nation's sacrifices and determination to reclaim its freedom and dignity. He highlighted the significant loss of over 1.5 million Algerians during the seven-year liberation war, which inspired several African nations to rise against colonial domination. The Ambassador expressed deep pride and emotion, gathering in the land of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the cradle of African freedom and Pan-Africanism, to commemorate a defining moment in Africa's history. The Algerian Revolution, he noted, shaped his country's destiny and strengthened global movements for independence, equality, and justice. Post-independence, Algeria has achieved political stability, economic diversification, and social development, guided by principles of sovereignty, peace, and solidarity. The country remains committed to supporting nations striving for self-determination, including Palestine and Western Sahara. The Ambassador also praised Ghana's support during Algeria's fight for independence, recalling Dr. Nkrumah's backing for the Algerian National Liberation Front and the hosting of its office in Accra in the 1950s. The Minister of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, commended Algeria's pivotal role in Africa's liberation and economic integration, particularly through initiatives like the Intra-African Trade Fair in Algiers. She praised Algeria's scholarship program, which supports dozens of Ghanaian students in Algerian universities, as a symbol of human resource development and people-to-people cooperation. Both countries aim to strengthen bilateral relations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and revive the Ghana–Algeria Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation in key sectors like agriculture, education, and health.
