After the war, he and Ednareturned to New York, where he accepted the position of postmaster for the townof Prattsville. He had threechildren to whom he was the ideal father and knew countless people to whom hewas the ideal friend. He was kind, generous, knowing, steady, strong and devout.

In the years that he spent withhis young family, they all enjoyed the wild and wacky adventures he led themon… raising sheep, skiing when the sport was in its infancy, raising andracing sled dogs, boating on the Hudson River and touring the United Statesduring the summer months.

By 1971 Richard and Eddi hadretired, their children had grown and moved away, so they moved to Boise, whereRichard and his brother-in-law Orrin Latham bought a small company called UstickBee Board and he fell in love with his work.
