Tracksuits are back. Except they never really went out of style. The tracksuit (and its lounge-ier brother, the sweatsuit) has gone from workout companion to costume to certified fashion statement. Today, things have settled down a bit, and every brand seems to have a tracksuit or sweatsuit in their collection. This is great news for fashion geeks, as well as anyone looking to stay fresh and cozy at the same time (so, everyone). Why? Because the best tracksuits can take you from the gym to the couch to the bar – while making a laid-back statement.
Below are some of our favorite iterations of the streetwear staple, from classics like the Adidas three-stripe suit to designer picks for channeling your inner A$AP Rocky. Wear them as a loungewear power move (a la Tony Soprano), while traveling, to the gym, or while running errands (in other words, all the time). Also, try rocking the pieces individually, such as the track jacket with jeans and boots or the sweats with a trench coat.
1. Adidas Originals Superstar Tracksuit
Adidas’ three-stripe suit is the undisputed OG of tracksuits (and maybe even loungewear in general, for that matter). It was the outfit of choice for streetwear pioneers in the eighties, and now it’s a staple in just about everyone’s closet. The polyester-cotton material is lightweight yet cozy, making it a good choice for the gym as well as everyday wear.
Although it’s certainly a statement, the two-piece fit is surprisingly versatile. Rock it with minimal sneakers and a white tee for a modern look, or go more old school with some throwback kicks and a hint of jewelry.

2. Nike Sportswear Tech Fleece Tracksuit
Tracksuits might be a fashion statement, but they’re still excellent for warming up before a workout or exercising in cold weather. This Tech Fleece suit from Nike is a great pick if you plan on working out in your tracksuit. The fabric is a cotton-polyester blend that has undergone a wash treatment for extra softness and a muted color. With shorts instead of pants, it’s also better prepared for movement and running. The look is very modern overall, making it just as stylish as it is high-performance.

3. Fred Perry Tracksuit
One of our favorite types of modern tracksuit is the prep-slash-streetwear pick, as showcased by Fred Perry. The jacket and pants are both super minimal, sporting a high collar, tonal tape down the sides, and the distinctive Fred Perry wreath logo on the chest and upper thigh. We recommend using the upgraded suit as a go-to for off-duty style by wearing it with clean sneakers (think, classic Nikes or upscale trainers).

4. END. x Needles Tracksuit
Tracksuits are, by nature, on the bold side. For this reason, some of the best tracksuits lean into that boldness, such as this one from END. x Needles. The Paisley-pattern getup blends west-coast style with Needles’ sought-after Japanese fashion, creating a special combo piece. It’s got the details of a classic tracksuit, complete with side stripes, ripped trims and a tall funnel neck. The jacket and pants obviously look great together, but they can also be very stylish when worn separately with other pieces in your wardrobe.

5. AMI Tracksuit
If you’re looking to inject some effortless Parisian style into your loungewear collection, consider this tracksuit from AMI. With a few low-key design tweaks, the French brand has elevated the tracksuit to be much more sophisticated than most. It checks the boxes of a classic tracksuit, such as a tall ribbed neck, zip-up front and kangaroo pockets. It differs with details like a special nylon-cotton build, a two-way zipper and, of course, AMI’s logo embroidered on the chest and pants pocket.

6. Kenzo Tiger Crest Sweatsuit
Good upgraded sweatsuits can be hard to come by, which is why we love this combo from Kenzo. At first glance, the sweatsuit is similar to the ones you might see in the gym. But, thanks to a more flattering fit, a high-quality construction and Kenzo tiger appliqués, the sweatsuit looks and feels like something from a Parisian designer. When the pieces are worn together, the sweatsuit is very casual, but the pieces are very versatile for use with almost any casual outfit.

7. Casablanca Tracksuit
Casablanca is another French label, but their look is athleisure-meets-island wear. This fresh-as-hell white tracksuit sums it up pretty well. It’s similar to something you might see in a ritzy eighties tennis club, only tweaked for easy wearing in the twenty-first century. With a thin, 100% polyester construction and a large back flap, it’s a good pick for spring/summer use. We suggest wearing this tracksuit casually with modern sneakers and a logo tee, polo shirt or tank top underneath.

8. Reebok Vector Tracksuit
If you’re still all about the nineties vibe (we are too) check out this classic Reebok Vector tracksuit. The grey, white and black colorway keeps things low-key, but the retro color block styling is sure to turn a few heads. Plus, as with all throwback athletic brands, the Reebok logo is worth sporting right now. With a polyester build, it’s also totally usable for exercise. We’d pair it with trainers and a plain tee for best effect.

9. Gucci Webbing-Trimmed Tracksuit
Gucci has been a significant force in the tracksuit renaissance of the past few years. Under creative director Alessandro Michele, the brand embraced streetstyle pieces like the tracksuit and, of course, made it Gucci. They now have a few fantastic tracksuits, but this webbing-trimmed pick is our favorite. It’s not quite as maximalist as some of the other options, but still bold Gucci at its finest. It goes best with designer sneakers and a private jet to Nice, but it’s also great with, say, Nikes and a plain tee on a night out.
